21 - Systems of House Division

There are many different house division system. Some include the following: Alchabitius, Campanus, Koch, Krusinski, Meridian, Neo-Porphyry, Placidus, Porphyry, Regiomontanus, Topocentric.

Alchabitius - Same as Placidus except the time to get to meridian is divided into 3.
Campanus - The circle from the zenith to the east horizon is divided into 12
Koch - Only for 66 degrees north to 66 degree south with equal increments of right ascension.
Krusinski - 12 equally divided parts of a circle from the ascendant and zenith
Meridian - Same as Regiomontanus except the east point is the start
Neo-Porphyry - Same as Porphyry except mid houses are compress or expanded.
Placidus - Division of time and not space
Porphyry - Ecliptic is divided in 3 parts and 4 angles.
Regiomontanus - Celestial equator is divided in 12
Topocentric - Equations for the Approximation of the Placidus System

House division systems are varied and differ depending on the astrologer. Yet in many basic rules are always applied. One is that the ecliptic is divided into houses and the eastern horizon starts at the first house and the western horizon starts at the seventh house.

In older times house division was use in the Equal-House System. Each 30 degree section of the ecliptic houses represented a sign of the zodiac evenly.

Also in some systems the "imum coeli" or Nadir will start at the fourth house and the "Medium Coeli" or Midheaven will start at the tenth house.
